The sands were still, quiet. For a spring day, it was unusually warm. The sky was a pale blue...whispy clouds dotted the sky high up in the firmament. The merciless sun beat down on the shadeless desert flats, and upon the back of the Arab mare. Dara watched her from afar. The mare was curious about her new surroundings...sniffing and pawing at the sand restlessly. She would occasionally kick up her heels and dash through the hot sand, tail arched and head held high. She had the grace of a deer, the speed of a gazelle, and the spirit of a battle-hardened warrior. In her heart brewed the storm of storms...Dara just hoped the storm in the mare didn't consume the stud farm. Had she had bitten off more than she could chew this time? Maybe...
Only time would tell if she had. And she had plenty of time.

Far away, she heard the mare's feral scream. She seemed at home...this place was chosen to replicate the desert sands of the Middle East...where this new mare had come from. Dara smiled as she continued to watch the Arabian mare. She had handled the fiery creature upon her arrival...the mare had tested her, and Dara had tested her back. They squared off, a challenge issued and accepted. Aasifa showed Dara her true colors up front, rearing up and pawing at the air, her eyes bright with fire and brimstone. The woman just stood her ground, cautious of course. She gave a firm tug on the mare's lead, letting the Arab know she was in control, she was the master. The mare returned to the earth and tossed her head, eying Dara with her half blue eye. Another sharp tug sent the message home. The mare danced around the small woman, but she did not throw a temper tantrum.

The mare laid down and rolled in the sand, then rose back to her feet and stood still, her head tucked close to her neck. She stood there, still as a statue, as if she knew Dara was watching. The woman snatched a quick picture, then turned to walk away from the fence. What did the future hold for this mare? Dara wondered and pondered...she would find some use for this wild horse from the Arabian deserts.
